Lipitor – the best protection after myocardial infarction

Chinese scientists have conducted a pilot study to determine the effect of generic Lipitor on the survival and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) of bone marrow implanted in postinfarction myocardium.
Myocardial infarction was modeled by ligation of coronary arteries in pigs. After reperfusion in cardiac tissue immediately transplanted autologous MSCs derived from bone marrow. One group of animals previously received Lipitor, the other – no. 6 weeks after transplantation there have been conducted emission computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
