Aloe Vera Gel A Bit of Botany

Aloe vera is a plant generally found in the wild in hot and tropical countries. Indeed, it is native to South Africa. It has long serrated leaves and beautiful yellow flowers. There are about 15 different species, all of which have medicinal properties. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to find them in the gardens and houses of our regions. Today, the one that particularly interests us is Aloe Barbadensis or aloe vera.

We, therefore, find in this plant several compounds with interesting properties:

  • Latex: This is the yellow sap that flows when you cut a leaf. This compound is very laxative and irritating (so be careful not to use it on the skin)
  • The gel: This is the transparent mucilage. That is the part that interests us for the skin because it is rich in natural photo elements.
  • Nutrients: This plant contains many vitamins, minerals, etc.
