What Is A Bone Fracture?
A fracture is the medical description of a broken bone. Fractures are usually caused by trauma such as falls, car accidents, or sports injuries. But certain medical conditions and repetitive forces (such as running) can increase the risk of certain fractures.
If you break a bone, you may need surgery to fix it. Approximately people only need a splint, cast, brace, or sling to help the bones heal. The time it takes to heal fully depends on which bone you broke, where the fracture occurred, and what caused it.
What Are The 8 Types Of Bone Fractures?
Now are some of the common types of bone fractures
Stick Fracture: A stick fracture occurs when a bone bends and breaks instead of completely breaking into separate pieces. A fracture looks like what happens when you try to break a small, “green” branch off a tree. Most clavicle fractures occur in children under ten years of age.
Transverse Fractures: occur when your bone breaks perpendicular to its length, and a fracture pattern is a straight line running in the opposite direction of your bone. These can occur in any bone in your body but most commonly affect long bones after trauma such as a fall or accident.
Spiral Fractures: occur when the fracture runs the length of your bone — like a spiral staircase. They can occur from falls, accidents, and sports injuries when your bones twist with excessive force (like a tackle in football).
Oblique Fracture: An oblique fracture occurs when the fracture is transverse across the bone. This type of fracture occurs mainly in long bones. Oblique fractures can result from a sharp blow from an angle caused by a fall or other trauma. An impact fracture occurs when the broken ends of the bone push together.
